FAA Approves Detriot Metro Noise Compatibility Plan

04-Jul-2009

The FAA has approved Wayne County Airport Authority's (WCAA) FAR Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study Update for Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The goal of the study update is to build upon the existing Noise Compatibility Program (NCP) adopted in 1993, by working in conjunction with surrounding communities, aviation experts and airport neighbors to establish a balanced, cost effective and comprehensive NCP for the airport, airport officials said.

Both studies were part of a voluntary effort by the airport to develop a program to reduce existing and future aircraft noise exposure to surrounding communities. The recommendations most effective in reducing the impact of noise were approved by the agency.

Changes have occurred at the airport since the first study, including the number of flights, aircraft fleet mix, aircraft technology, and airfield improvements. These changes raised the possibility that the areas exposed to aircraft noise may have changed, thus necessitating this study update," said WCAA CEO Lester Robinson.

The study update includes recommendations to reduce aircraft noise, control land development, mitigate the impact of noise on non-compatible land uses, and implement the recommendations approved by FAA.
